Deforestation-Solution and details
SDG's-Deforestation
By Ehan Govani
Introduction:
We have many global issues in today's world. The UN's SDG's show the major ones and tell us that they work their hardest to solve these issues. But what can we do to help solve these global issues. In this blog I will focus on the solution to deforestation and what we can do to prevent it.What is deforestation and what are it's effects?
Deforestation refers to the decline in the number of forests all around the globe. Effects of deforestation include climate change, soil erosion, desertification, fewer crops, flooding, increased greenhouse gases in the atmosphere among things like diseases. Deforestation can impact many communities of people who depend on forests for their survival, like the lower class. These are all serious effects hence why this issue has to be taken very seriously.
What causes deforestation?
Deforestation has multiple causes. The main cause of deforestation though is the land taken because of agriculture. As the human race evolves both in population and in technology, the more we need agriculture to support everyone. This leads to many forests having to be cut down to make land to grow crops. Agriculture is responsible for 80% of deforestation that happens on earth. Of course there area a few other causes. Natural causes include forest fires or diseases caused by parasites. Construction of infrastructure like roads and dams take up the remaining 20%.
How can it be solved?
Now we can always try to tell people to try and eat less meat, be diet conscious, make
efficient use of products but we know that these won't really help at all. Even if we got the entire population of earth to eat less and be conscious, it wouldn't stop the fact that the population is increasing. This problem needs a genuine long term solution. So, I created a project to show my idea for how it can be solved. My project: https://planner5d.com/v?key=faca77be5d1be0ba00fef0de7d3e37e8&viewMode=3d (copy the link paste on browser to open the project)
Looking at this project, you can see that my idea is to basically grow crops underground. Instead of taking land away from the giant forests, we can utilize the land under for crops that don't need sunlight to grow. Crops such as potatoes, spinach, lettuce, carrot, celery, mushrooms, white asparagus, etc. don't require sunlight to grow and can easily be grown underground. By doing this we can easily reduce the amount of land taken up for agriculture and give the forests back their space.
Conclusion:
The earth is in desperate need of saving. The more we increase in population, the more the earth struggles to maintain it's qualities. We must work together and try and implement new solutions and encourage ideas to make a change otherwise we might not stick around for that long. Please suggest your ideas on what you think can be done to stop issues like these and to really contribute we can try and support organizations such as the UN and help them achieve their goals to save the planet. Together, we can stop the earth from turning dark.
